It’s a little hot today.
- 有一點熱。Jīntiān yǒuyìdiǎn rè。
- 今天偏熱。 Jīntiān piān rè。
- 今天蠻熱的。Jīntiān mán rè de。
It’s very hot today.
- 今天熱極了。Jīntiān rè jí le。 ⚠️ Textbook expression
- 今天非常熱。 Jīntiān fēicháng rè。
It’s extremely/incredibly hot today.
- 今天超熱。Jīntiān chāo rè。（Literal = super hot)
- 今天熱死了。Jīntiān rè sǐ le。（Literal = …to death)
- 今天熱得要命。Jīntiān rè de yàomìng。（Literal = …to cause one’s life)
- 今天有夠熱。Jīntiān yǒu gòu rè。⚠️ Borrowed from Taiwanese
Extremity with creative twists, but also commonly heard:
- 今天熱到不行。Jīntiān rè dào bùxíng。（Literal = too hot to I can’t stand it)
- = 今天熱到受不了。Jīntiān rè dào shòu bù liǎo。
- 今天熱到爆。Jīntiān rè dào bào。（Literal = …to explosion)
- = 今天熱到炸。Jīntiān rè dào zhà。
- 今天熱到炸汗。Jīntiān rè dào zhà hàn。（Literal = so hot that my sweat exploded)
- 今天熱到脫褲。Jīntiān rè dào tuō kù。（Literal = so hot that my pants dropped)
- 今天熱到融化。Jīntiān rè dào rónghuà。（Literal = so hot that I am melting)
Other examples of creative expression
- 餓到生氣 è dào shēng qì – so hungry that I am angry
- 冷到發抖 lěng dào fādǒǔ – so cold that I am shivering
- 累到趴 lèi dào pā – so tired that I can only lie on the ground (facing down!)
- 笨到極致 bèn dào jízhì – the stupidity has reached an extreme level
- 臭到受不了 chòu dào shòu bù liǎo – so stinky that I can’t stand it
- 窮到脫褲 qióng dào tuō kù – so poor that one had to (take off) pants to exchange for money
- 好聽到起雞皮疙瘩 hǎo tīng dào qǐ jīpí gēdā – (music, sound) is so good that I’m getting goosebumps
- 起 + 雞皮疙瘩 – qǐ + jīpí gēdā – to get + goosebumps
- 好笑到肚子痛 hǎo xiào dào dùzi tòng – so funny that my tummy hurts (from laughing)
- 黑到發亮 hēi dào fā liàng – (skin, hair) so dark that it’s shinny
- 紅到發紫 hóng dào fā zǐ – (a famous person) extremely famous (Literal = so red that it’s turning purple)
